Miles from the last school bus stop, the rural, wood-heated classrooms on the mountain meadow may resemble one-room schoolhouses of a couple hundred years ago; the solar panels on the roof are powering the teacher's laptop, though, and on cloudy days a generator keeps the school connected to the 21st century....
Salmon Creek Community School is a private nonprofit school, established in 1970 to meet the educational needs of the children in our rural community. Throughout its history, the school has offered a creative, caring environment for learning and an emphasis on valuing the individual and the community. Together, teachers, parents and community volunteers create a rich, challenging and positive classroom experience for our children. Language arts, math, science and social studies compose the foundation of our academic program. Music, movement, handwork, art, drama and Spanish are incorporated into a standards-based curriculum. Skills such as carpentry and gardening help students expand their self-confidence while sharing their work with others. The small class sizes allow for intensely individualized instruction and attention for each child. See play struture
S.C.C.S. is a community resource which enjoys the support and input of parents, teachers and community members as board members and volunteers. Our funding is achieved through tuition, donations and special fund-raiser events. To ensure the community's involvement, we actively seek out local experts to teach about their area of interest, provide meeting space for other community activities and organizations, and sponsor fund-raising events that encourage community awareness and participation. The extended neighborhood of Salmon Creek is the life-blood of our school, and the school is its' heart. Join us in this very special and unique educational process.
